一个SM’s 2022 Class of Fellows

For more than 90 years, ASM International has recognized the achievements of individuals and organizations that contribute to materials science and engineering. Continue this tradition by nominating candidates for ASM Awards. There are over twenty ASM Awards that recognize individuals and/or organizations for technical achievements, teaching, research, development and furthering the purpose and mission of ASM.

一个wards are presented at the ASM Awards Dinner banquet as well as highlighted in Advanced Materials & Processes magazine and on the ASM website.

Dr. Michael D. Uchic, FASM
Principal Materials Research Engineer
一个ir Force Research Laboratory
Wright- Patterson AFB, OH

“For groundbreaking experimental research on micro deformation and 3D characterization of materials combined with visionary contributions to understanding of microscale metal plasticity.”

2022 ASM Award Program Recipients

The ASM International Board of Trustees has named award program recipients for 2022. The awards program recognizes achievements of members of the materials science and engineering community. Awards were presented at ASM’s Awards Dinner during IMAT22.

Silver Medal Award
Dr. Antonello Astarita,一个ssociate Professor
University of Naples, Italy

“For consistent dedication to the science of manufacturing and for his contribution in the sharing of knowledge worldwide and in the mentoring of future generations of engineers.”

Ms. Margaret Bush Flury,Principal Materials Engineer, Failure Analysis,
Medtronic, Fridley, MN

“For passion of Failure Analysis, and using it to improve medical devices, patient lives, and to help grow others in the failure analysis and materials science communities during her 21-year ASM membership.”

Established in 2010, the honor of Silver Medal of the Society is to provide recognition to members who are in mid-career positions (typically 5 to 15 years of experience), for distinguished contributions in the field of materials science and engineering, and the society. The purpose of this award is to recognize leadership at an early stage and encourage individuals to grow, nurture, and further contribute to the growth of the profession, as well as the society.

Bronze Medal Award
Dr. Abdallah Elsayed,
一个ssistant Professor, School of Engineering,
University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada

“For technical contributions to light metals development in transport and related fields as well as engaging students, professionals and retirees thorough ASM service activities.”

一个SM Student Paper Contest
Mr. Bernoulli Andilab,
for his paper entitled:

“Characterization of a Cast AI-Cu Alloy for Automotive Cylinder Head Applications” published in the Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, February. 2022.

ASM国beplay体育官网地址际学生论文竞赛tablished in 1985, as a mechanism for student participation in Society affairs. The award recognizes the best technical paper with a graduate or undergraduate student as first author that is published in an ASM sponsored publication during the year.

“2022 MMA Editor’s Choice Articles Announced”

Metallography, Microstructure, and AnalysisEditor-in-Chief Ryan Deacon recently announced this year’s Editor’s Choice articles, showcasing six of the high-quality articles that were published in the journal in 2022. They are free to read and can be shared with your colleagues.

We hope you enjoy reading these articles, and we extend our congratulations to the authors of these high-quality papers!

Surfing Waves on an HEA’s Fracture Surface

This image shows fracture surface of the equimolar HfMoNbTiZr refractory high entropy alloy having BCC crystal structure. The fracture surface was examined by using a tabletop scanning electron microscope (Hitachi TM1000) and the image was captured under back-scattered electron mode at the magnification of 2500X. The image is presenting characteristic features of brittle fracture (cleavage fracture) evidenced by river lines within a single grain. This image was used for the study of the mechanical properties, failure analysis, and surface modification of engineered materials.
