AISI 5117 is a low-carbon, low-chromium steel for carburizing and other uses. It is recommended for carburizing applications where it is sufficient to have a low-hardenability core of medium strength and toughness combined with a hard, wear-resistant carburized case. It is used without carburizing in the as-rolled, annealed, normalized or quenched-and-tempered condition. It is suitable for use in the automotive, farm-machinery and many other industries.
