SAE 1017 is a carbon steel with a relatively low manganese content (0.30-0.60%) which contributes to relatively low hardenability in all applications and increased ductility with decreased hardness and strength in the core of carburized material and in uncarburized uses. It combines good hot and cold workability, good machinability and good weldability. Typical applications are carburized parts, bolts, trusses and cold-extruded parts. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties.
