EASTERN STAINLESS TYPE 348 is a stabilized type of stainless steel free from the chromium carbide precipitates that cause intergranular corrosion. It is recommended for welded components that cannot be annealed after welding. It also is used for parts that are heated and cooled intermittently to temperatures between 800 and 1600 F. Type 348 is stabilized by an addition of columbium. Tantalum is restricted to 0.10% maximum and cobalt is restricted to 0.20% maximum. Because of these restrictions, Type 348 is recommended for use in applications such as those encountered in radioactive service. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue.
